Dennis Kleidon’s paintings are on display at the WHAM West Gallery, 16560 N. Dysart Road, through Friday, Nov. 29.
The show, titled “Textures of Taliesin,” features more than 40 of Mr. Kleidon’s paintings.
“This exhibition is not simply the work of someone who likes making paintings and is good at that. It is the product of someone who is obsessed with the idea of communication – with using paint on a surface to transfer ideas-plus-sensations…from his mind, his sensibility, to yours,” art historian Edward Lucie-Smith stated, while reviewing Mr. Kleidon’s work, in a WHAM West Gallery news release.
The WHAM exhibit showcases acrylic paintings on canvas and on paper in two of Mr. Kleidon’s series, “Unleashed and Taliesin.”
The Taliesin series is inspired by the desert boulders used to build Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West, according to WHAM. When Mr. Wright’s students built his home and school in Scottsdale beginning in 1937, they incorporated boulders from the surrounding McDowell Mountains. Mr. Kleidon’s paintings express the earth colors of the boulders and adapt their textures to many hues.
Mr. Kleidon is a Professor of Art Emeritus from the University of Akron; co-founder and CEO of Kleidon & Associates, a marketing communications firm; and author of the soon-to-be-published “Unleashing Your Imagination.” He maintains studios in Akron, Ohio, and in the Phoenix area, where he is a member of the WHAM Art Association and the Sonoran Arts League.
WHAM gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
