Salty Dawgs play to help Chance Shelter
Sun City Grand group’s concert raises more than $3,000

Sun City Grand has a well-kept secret: A musical group called The Salty Dawgs.
During the long COVID-19 “shelter-in-place,” this group played more than 30 free driveway concerts. Residents gathered in golf carts and on lawn chairs to listen to their music and see old friends. There was always a banjo case open for donations benefitting local businesses and charities.
The last concert of the season, on May 1, was attended by more than 100 and raised more than $3,000 for Chance Shelter’s building fund.
That brought the season total for The Salty Dawgs to more than $12,000 raised to be distributed in Surprise.
The weather, the sunset, the attendees and the music were over the top, as the group continues to make a name for itself.
Don Bollard, David Durham, Tom Taggett and Patrick Watts are the members of The Salty Dawgs.
Chance Shelter is a no-kill, nonprofit to help animals in crisis situations.
North Copper Canyon developers zoned a 35-acre parcel for a buffer around a seven-acre future Chance Shelter parcel. The shelter’s home will be south of Deer Valley Road.
