Officials from the Surprise Police Department and Western Maricopa Education Center Northwest Campus met Oct. 3 for an official exchanging of keys as a retired police cruiser was donated to the school.

The 2012 Dodge Charger was donated to the West-MEC campus, 13201 W. Grand Ave., for use in the Law, Public Safety, & Security program.

Students will utilize the vehicle for a variety of training scenarios, none of which include emergency driving or operating the vehicle on public roadways.

The cruiser was up for replacement in accordance with Surprise policies after more than 100,000 miles worth of use in service of the community.

The donation is a part of the City of Surprise’s ongoing commitment to developing and engaging the youth in our community.
