Perfect Game sets up shop in Surprise for summer

Surprise marked the start of summer youth baseball tournament season May 14 and events continue at the Surprise Stadium Sports Complex.

A series of Perfect Game and USA Baseball events are at the complex this summer.

Each tournament will host local and national talent as they showcase their abilities on the diamond and participate in quality competition.

The Surprise Recreation Campus opened in December 2002. The long-term economic benefits associated with these nationally recognized events continue to be fundamental to the tourism industry while contributing to local economy.

Perfect Game just finished its Sunshine Southwest Showcase. In addition to being the first opportunity for many top young prospects to be evaluated by Perfect Game scouts, the Sunshine Southwest Showcase is also the last opportunity for players to earn an invitation to the Perfect Game National Showcase in mid-June.

Upcoming events are:

• Perfect Game — WWBA West Memorial Day Classic May 28-31
This is the inaugural 17U West Memorial Day Classic held annually in Arizona.

• USA Baseball National Team Championships Series
The USA Baseball National Team Championships are elite championship events which serve as the primary identification for players to be considered for the 15U National Team, as well as the 13U/14U Athlete Development Program and the 16U and 17U National Team Development Programs. Through these events, USA Baseball provides an opportunity for more than 400 teams to showcase their talents against teams from all across the nation and players an opportunity to be selected to represent their country.

Tournaments are:
• USA Baseball 16U National Team Championships, June 15-20
• USA Baseball 17U National Team Championships, June 23-28
• USA Baseball 14U/15U National Team Championships, July 1-6

• Perfect Game — WWBA West National Championship (15U-17U) July 9-16
This is the second annual WWBA West 17U National Championship in the Phoenix area. Past Champions include: CBA Marucci National & NorCal Baseball Prime.

• Perfect Game — WWBA West National Championship (14U-16U), July 16-22
This is the second annual WWBA West 14U & 16U National Championship in the Phoenix area.

• Perfect Game — 17U World Series, July 27-31
This is the 10th annual 17U Perfect Game World Series. This will be a strict invite-only tournament with the top teams from around the country in attendance.

Individual tournament schedules, admission costs, and event information will become available prior to the start of each tournament. For information, contact the sports and tourism department at 623-222-2253 or visit exploresurprise.com.
