Pandemic permitting, OUAZ’s football team hopes to get back on the field in late winter to complete a six-game schedule.
The team released a 2021 schedule that features three home games, although it’s still too early to tell if fans will be allowed at the games.
The team’s 2020 fall schedule was canceled, but the Sooner Athletic Conference is planning a six-game schedule for each team provided the COVID-19 pandemic is in check at the time.
The defending champion Spirit start off on the road at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth on Feb 27.
The home opener is scheduled for March 6 when in-state rival Arizona Christian plans to make a visit to Surprise.
The Spirit also have home games March 27 against Wayland Baptist and April 3 against the Southwest Assemblies of Gold University.
Other road games include trips to Goodwell, Oklahoma to play Oklahoma Panhandle State March 13 and the season finale at Langston (Oklahoma) April 10.
In the program’s two years of competition, OUAZ has compiled a 9-3 record against the six teams on the spring schedule. OUAZ beat all of them during the 2019 season.
The 16-team NAIA Football Championship Series will begin with opening-round play April 17 and run through the 65th Annual Football National Championship May 10 at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium in Grambling, Louisiana.
The first three rounds of the playoffs will be played at campus sites.
Eight of the nine teams in the SAC will play a six-game conference schedule in the spring. Texas College was the only sshool to opt out of the season.
Lyon College is the lone conference team not on the Spirit’s schedule during the season. Any games played by conference teams during the fall don’t count in the conference standings.
