Legends on stage for inaugural event

The West Valley Country Music Association will host a monthly Open Mic 2 p.m. the second Sunday of each month at Chef Peter’s Bistro, 17300 Sun Village Parkway.

The inaugural performance takes place 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. The Ron Rose Country Experience is scheduled to back up the entertainers. Featured performer for the afternoon will be Nashville recording artist Rollie Stevens, with a special tribute to country music legend Marty Robbins.

Ron Rose and Todd Carlson have performed together for the past 15 years. In addition to their numerous local performances, they’ve auditioned for “America’s Got Talent,” been featured at the Branson Fest Outwest in Mesquite, Nevada, and played for line dancers at charity events at London Bridge in Lake Havasu. They will perform on a cruise ship this fall.

Mr. Rose grew up the son of a preacher in Peru, Indiana. Coming from a gospel music family, he’s a self-taught guitarist and a multi-talented musician, singer and songwriter. He also plays banjo, piano and harmonica. He played on the first Marty Robbins Tribute Show, which is now in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Mr. Carlson grew up in the Phoenix area. Coming from a musical family he taught himself to play left-handed bass at the age of 16. He’s played in various types of bands, including 60s music, hard rock and country.

Mr. Stevens was a firefighter for the City of Phoenix for many years before pursuing a career in country music. He toured and recorded with country singer Lynn Anderson for 10 years, and was awarded the Best Male Vocalist and Song of the Year awards by Arizona Country Music Association.

The public is invited to come and enjoy a full roster of singers, songwriters and musicians. This is a free event sponsored by West Valley Country Music Association.
