Letters: Protestors of representative’s Surprise office are not ‘stalkers’

Posted

I just read your article in the April 16 edition of the Surprise Independent (“City is ground zero for political protests”). I appreciate your coverage but was dismayed when I saw on page 12 you made reference to a group of protesters who have been going to U.S. Rep. Abe Hamedeh’s office weekly for couple of months as “stalkers.”

I think the world stalker is reserved for people who are dangerous and or are endangering another person, or persons.

Public protesting is allowed in the United States, and unless someone is threatening someone I’m not sure why you would use that word to describe their activity. I don’t believe anyone going to his office to protest is doing that.

There is already enough political divisiveness today, and it’s important we don’t contribute to that.
