Letters: Organizers thank attendees of Hands Off protest in Surprise

Posted

This April 5 Hands Off! event was part of the largest single-day protest since Trump’s second inauguration with millions of citizens turning out across the country.

With Trump and congressional Republicans doubling down on their agenda to gut essential services, North and West Valley residents sent a clear message: Take your hands off our healthcare, our Social Security, our civil rights, our freedom, and our education.

It was a glorious day for local residents of these outskirt communities to realize that they are not alone in their desire to save our country. Many of the Surprise rally participants revealed that this was the first time they have ever attended a protest event. They said they were motivated to do so by the lawlessness of Trump and Musk.

Many thanks to Surprise PD for their excellent support of the event. Sgt. Galaz and Lt. Robbins met with rally organizers before the protest to insure a successful outcome. It was such a peaceful rally that small children and seniors in wheelchairs were safe to express their views.

Also heartfelt thanks for their hospitality to the Surprise businesses impacted by the large crowds of excited community members.

The rally was organized by members of Northwest Valley and Anthem Indivisible organizations.

Mardi Devolites is the volunteer co-lead for Anthem Indivisible.
