Letters: Most people are against keeping tax in place

Posted

I am a reader of the Surprise Independent and was displeased by the Wednesday, Sept. 30 issue Opinions section. Your paper pledges (or should pledge) to be unbiased and fair and balanced in reporting on particular issues and viewpoints.

But all I read were letter after letter by writers in support of the Dysart Unified School District override and Prop 208. I didn’t see one letter against them.

If you have noticed, there are far more ads and arguments against Prop 208 than for it. If passed, it will hit businesses with higher taxes as well as homeowner property taxes for the new override that extend further out in time.

In this age of people, including seniors (whose incomes have been hit hard by COVID-19), the last thing we need is another extended tax at this time. There are way too many school administrators and their salaries are way too high compared with teachers salaries. All money from overrides should go to the classroom and not administrator overhead waste.
