Letters: Mask mandate should be followed by all

In reply to the comment by Paul Playford [“Too many ignore requests to wear masks,” Surprise Independent, Oct. 14] we have to agree with him and his wife regarding the lack of people wearing masks in the city as the city does have a mask mandate.

We always wear a mask when out and about in this town and anywhere else in the county or state considering the current health climate.

Just the other day, we noticed a Trump merchandise bus next to the Burger King on Grand Avenue, and this is at least the second week it has been there. There was also a Trump merchandise tent about three weeks ago next to the Walgreens at Grand and Parkview Place.

We stopped in to see just what they were selling and noticed that no one was wearing masks per the city mandate. Same goes for the location next to Burger King where the “manager” said they didn’t have to wear masks after I mentioned that the city has a mask mandate. Even most of the “customers” there did not wear masks. The Walgreen’s location is no longer there.

I just wonder why they can’t follow the city rules for safety. I contacted the city’s compliance department and they said they would forward my concerns to the police department since that is part of the police department’s job. I also wondered if these people had a permit to set up and the compliance department will look into it.

We don’t care if it is a Trump or a Biden “business” but they should follow the city’s mandate.
