Letters: Funding for students needs to continue

Posted

Here at the Dysart Community Center, we understand that a child’s education is critical to their personal enrichment and success. Adequate funding is paramount for a school district to deliver the best education possible to that child.

Unfortunately, the state of Arizona has continually underfunded public education, resulting in the state’s consistent bottom 10% ranking in per student funding when compared to the rest of the nation. This lack of funding effects all children but in particular those who are our more vulnerable students — those in lower income families. Educating those in need was the first priority of the Dysart Community Center when it opened in 1962 and remains so today.

We believe that by empowering our community through education while providing relief from various social and economic stresses, we can play an important part in helping our community members reach the full potential of their character and capabilities.

We strongly support the Dysart Unified School District’s bond and override proposals. We believe it is in the best interests of our underserved and more vulnerable students in our community to provide the best opportunities possible.

Vote “yes” on the override.

Editor’s Note: Ms. Ansell is the executive director of the Dysart Community Center.
