DUSD Override

Letters: DUSD is bloated, needs reboot of management

Posted

I could not believe the arrogance and gall of the Dysart Unified School District Governing Board for even considering another election a year after losing the last one by a wide margin.

One of the issues that glares out at me when reading your article [“DUSD debating override for voters,” April 29] was the another government entity bloated administration bellowing their bureaucratic nonsense.

In your article two “superintendents” were quoted — Jim Dean, assistant superintendent for support services, and Ken Hicks, assistant superintendent for business services. These two are only assistants to the actual superintendent, so just how many highly paid superintendents and assistant superintendents does DUSD have — a dozen, two dozen? How many millions of dollars go to pay these salaries each year?

What happened to having one superintendent of schools with a staff of non-titled (read entitled) folks to help him or her manage the district? As shown above, DUSD is just like every other government entity — a bloated, entitled, over-managed behemoth that feeds on taxpayers.

All of these bureaucrats need to be terminated, and DUSD reorganized to cut costs and use what funds are approved for the classrooms not on bureaucrats.

A superintendent of schools with a support staff is all that is required to manage this district. There is no need for a dozen or more overpaid superintendents and assistants along with their staffs. Superintendent Quinn Kellis and DUSD board, I am talking to you.

Lastly, does board member Traci Sawyer-Sinkbeil think the voters are stupid? Anyone can do an “informal poll” to have it reach whatever conclusion we desire.

The only poll that matters is the election poll, and it overwhelming said “stop the wasteful spending and live within your means.”

Also, the number of people showing up to a meeting for a hearing on something (one that should not have even been taking place actually as per the voters results of an election less than six months prior) means nothing.

It just show the minority (losing side) of an election is angry for losing, nothing else.

The voters have spoken. Now do your jobs with the resources given.
