Letters: Duffy doesn’t deserve to be reelected

Posted

I saw a post about [Surprise City Councilman] Patrick Duffy that said he was “committed to the community.”

No he’s not. He blew off not one, not two, but three separate meetings with our HOA when we needed our council member to be there. He says he’s “committed to public safety.” That’s interesting because he did nothing to help [the] Fire and Police [departments], and even though they endorsed him less than two years ago, they want nothing to do with him now.

He says he’s a “champion for recreation and youth.” The only thing he said in his six-hour budget meeting was that he wanted to increase the sports budget and he wants more fields. We already have fields. Open those up for the public instead of wasting more money building more fields. If that’s all he had to say for our budget, then he clearly does not understand the budget or how our tax dollars should be spent.

He says he’s “committed to economic opportunity” but has done absolutely nothing to improve that in Surprise. Nothing. He’s had no ideas, no recommendations. He has no idea what he’s doing. In fact, when an economic opportunity came to our city his response at a council meeting was “Not my problem.”

He didn’t like that particular economic opportunity. So, instead of being a wise councilman and helping with solutions and telling the community the truth about the development, he responded with “Not my problem.”

If uttering those words at a council meeting under any circumstance isn’t enough for you to say no more Duffy, I don’t know what is.

And last, he says he’s “dedicated to community participation.” Prior to COVID-19 he cancelled at least half of his meet and greets. When he does have meetings, he can’t even give a report to you — he has to have several city employees show up to do it for him.

He doesn’t even know what’s going on. That’s not dedication, that’s passing the bucket to someone else because he can’t answer the questions. He’s not dedicated, he’s not committed, he’s done nothing and he does not deserve to be reelected.
