DUSD override

Letters: DEA backs DUSD override issue in November

Posted

We are writing to inform you that the Dysart Education Association has voted. Our membership’s full support and endorsement for the [Dysart Unified School] District override continuation was unanimous. Let’s take a closer look at our reasons for such an important ballot question, in this November’s election.

The 15% override continuation is used to fund positions that fill full-day kindergarten, specials like dance, PE and art and to keep class sizes manageable. This is money that is used in the maintenance and operations of the district and does not increase current taxes from their current levels.

Without it, hundreds of staff positions would be cut. This alone would negatively impact the community economically, as many of these are support and certified positions, filled by staff who are also residents living within the Dysart boundaries. Dysart absolutely must have this pass to maintain the positive school and community impacts we have seen in past years.

There isn’t a mystery where the money is going to be spent. Dysart Unified School District has provided the factual tools and resources needed to be able to make a truly informed decision. DUSD, an award-winning district, follows required transparency laws and fiscal responsibility mandates for public education. The school district is not allowed to provide anything except factual information. Watch the videos at dysart.org/election or ask those that know the answers at VoteYES4Dysart.com.

Because we, DEA president and Dysart PAC chair, have collectively spent the time researching and investing our time and our energy into this community, our staff and our students, we wholeheartedly endorse and support the Dysart override and hope that everyone chooses to vote “yes.”
