Letters: Cline gets my vote for past work

Posted

I have known and worked with Alyson Cline during our time served on the Disability Advisory Commission for the city of Surprise. Her compassion for her volunteer work is admirable.

Her attendance was excellent and she could always be counted on to go above and beyond what was required. Ms. Cline has always been willing to extend her time to off-hour meetings whenever we had an idea on how to help the community.

In addition, Alyson has done a remarkable job volunteering for the Friends of Surprise Libraries. She has founded and been the director of this marvelous organization for 12 years. This group has been collecting used books and selling them to encourage reading among children and adults.

Through Ms. Cline’s “do-it-yourself” confidence, she has worked with schools and partnered with other organizations. The money from the sale of books (for which they charge only 25 cents to $3), has yielded over tens of thousands of dollars in revenue.

This money has been donated to charities and in the form of grants for community projects. Make no mistake about it, Ms. Cline has been the primary driving force behind this endeavor.

Ms. Cline is a “regular” user of Facebook and follows several groups that concern the citizens of Surprise. She not only participates in community discussions, but goes out of her way to answer questions from total strangers who seek information/advice.

On several occasions she posted informative website links to help others find exactly what they need. Alyson is, in a sense, a volunteer provider of (physical and cyber) community support; she deserves to be in a leadership role for community service.

I highly recommend Alyson Cline for the position of city councilmember because of her proven commitment to the prosperity of the city of Surprise.
