Imagine Prep Surprise wins 1st basketball title

Imagine Prep Surprise won its first Canyon Athletic Association Division 3 basketball state championship in school history.
The Storm defeated Az Compass Prep 54-35 in the final Feb. 21 to finish 21-0 on the season under the lead of head coach Al Luna.
Imagine Prep was lead by its back court duo. Senior Amir Muhammad finished with 29 points, four steals and nine rebounds, while sophomore Jaylen Cassidy had 10 points, five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, 6-9 junior Brady Heuseveldt led on the defensive side with six blocks and nine rebounds as well as senior Damiaen Madore contributing four steals and four rebounds.
Imagine Prep Surprise was coming off runner-up at the state championship in 2021-2022, falling short ending with a record of 21-4. Luna said this was a great feeling to come back and win this year, especially because it’s not easy getting back to the final.
Luna said he is looking forward to next year with the core of guys coming back and likes the Storm’s chances of getting back again. Imagine Prep returns a talented floor general in Cassidy, who led the league in steals and assists. Heuseveldt who led the league in blocks.
Muhammad, who led the league with 26.7 points per game, has offers from North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, Elon University, Eastern Carolina University, Queens University of Charlotte, Seton Hall University, Dayton University, California State University-Fullerton, Youngstown State University and Barry University.
Seniors Javion Bolden and Damiean Madore will both continue to play and further their education next year he has committed to Dakota State University.
