Imagine Prep Surprise football won back-to-back Canyon Athletic Association Division II state championships after defeating Imagine Prep Superstition 32-18 on Nov. 12 at Bell Bank Park in Mesa.
Junior fullback/defensive end Bryce Pollay ran for 192 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
“We were younger team this year after graduating 12 last season. After an early season glitch, our leadership began to form on the field and I knew we had a chance to go back to back,” Imagine Prep coach Kip Pollay stated in an email.
Junior linebacker/running back Drayke Woolsey had two touchdowns and picked up two key sacks down the stretch.
“The teams exchanged punches in the first half and we finished the half up by 8. We made a few halftime adjustments and shut down their offense in the second half, and wore them down with the physicality of our run game.” Kip Pollay stated.
Last season the Storm football team became the first from Surprise to win a state title in any high school division after defeating Heritage Academy-Mesa 42-36.
“I’m extremely proud of this group for what they were able to accomplish and how far they came together as a team. We lose four quality starters to graduation, but we are bringing back most of our starters and should be pretty solid again next fall,” Kip Pollay said.
