Ground Floor Artists will present a Stylized Still Life acrylic class led by instructor Kelley Smith from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at 13343 W. Foxfire Drive, Suite 3.

Learn how to paint a stylized floral still life using the very basic of shapes and painting techniques. This class is also a good idea if you’d like to schedule a party with Kelley on a day or night that works best for you.

The class fee is $35, which includes all supplies necessary for a 16”x20” or 14”x14” canvas painting.

Smith also will lead “Soft Pastel Landscapes” from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at Ground Floor.

The class fee $40 and includes all materials need to paint two 9’x12” pastel paintings on professional sanded paper made especially for pastels.

A maximum of eight people can sign up.

This class is designed for the absolute beginner and will go over briefly the history and basic use of soft pastels. Participants may bring your own pastels or use what's on hand.

Landscape references available but participants can bring their own.

Soft pastels are made from pure pigments with a small amount of binder. The vibrant and rich colors produced by pastels will last lifetimes if framed properly. Soft pastels are often called “eye candy” because of the richness of the colors.
