City extended deadline for Small Business Relief program

Posted

The city of Surprise still has a few more days to give money to eligible businesses through its Surprise Small Business Relief Grant program.

The city has extended the application deadline until Friday, Oct. 30 for any small business that has less than 25 employees, no more than $2 million in annual revenue and started business before March.

The city council approved the grant program Sept. 1 to support local small businesses experiencing revenue loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic and closures from with Gov. Doug Ducey’s executive orders.

The grant offers funds in the amounts of $1,500, $2,500, $5,000, $7,500 and $10,000 depending on which of five categories the business falls under.

City officials said the grant intends to support for-profit small businesses with commercial space to maintain operations and keep jobs in the city. The money can assist local businesses with rent, utilities, payroll expenses and other necessary operating costs.

The Arizona Community Foundation is administering the program. Applicants must create an account with the Arizona Community Foundation as a part of the application process.

Eligible Surprise businesses can apply at surpriseaz.gov/smallbusinessgrant.
