Future Chef’s competition open to Surprise K-5 students


The annual Future Chef’s competition will take place Wednesday, March 4 at Paradise Honors Elementary School, 15533 W. Paradise Lane, Surprise.

This year’s theme is “Reimagine Your Favorite School Lunch Meal," and is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Recipes may be submitted through Thursday, Jan. 23.

Six finalists will be selected on Friday, Jan. 24 and given paperwork for the event which must be signed and returned by Thursday, Jan. 30. Contestants will be expected to prepare six presentation plates, one for each judge, with an item on a six-inch plate provided at the competition.

A supervisor will be assigned to assist contestants throughout the process. All food and equipment needed supplied.

Judging criteria include taste, originality, ease of preparation, kid appeal, healthy attributes, use of featured ingredients and presentation of the sample plate.
