Edelstein: Arts options abound as 2021 begins

Posted

Well, it’s 2021, and like a lot of you, I’m on the couch staying safe. The year 2020 was hard on everyone, and I hope we all find health and happiness in this new year.

As scaled down as our entertainment options have become, we still have some wonderful arts venues here in Surprise. WHAM and Arts HQ both have opening-night receptions and The Vista has an exciting lineup of performers. Some dates to mark on the calendar are Friday, Jan. 15, Saturday, Jan. 16, Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23.

Let’s begin at WHAM.

Its current show “My Secret Garden” runs  through Saturday, Jan. 30. During this exhibit its gift shop is having a Grand Reopening event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan 15 and 16. Special gifts will be given out with any purchase while supplies last.

The following week, please join us for opening night Jan. 22 at Arts HQ. This reception is the first for 2021. Help kick off the year with IMPRINT-African Americans in the Arts. We will once again be celebrating Black History Month.

The party is from 4 to 7 p.m. Masks are required, and please RSVP to allow us to follow social distancing guidelines. The show runs through Friday, March 5, so be sure to make this a must-see.

Then, make it a special weekend by attending WHAM’s opening reception on Jan. 23 We’ll be outdoors from 2 to 4 p.m. with music by Suco Duo. With the beautiful weather we enjoy here, there’s no better way to spend a winter afternoon.

Our amazing theater, The Vista, is bringing comedian Bill Engvall to Arizona. He’s coming to the theater on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Check out all these incredible events on the web, online on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and in person.

Arts HQ is located at 16126 N. Civic Center Drive. WHAM is at 16548 N. Dysart Road, and The Vista is at 15660 N. Parkview Place.

Stay safe everyone, and let’s make 2021 a great year.
