Dysfunctional holiday coming to The Grand in Surprise

‘A Nice Family Christmas’ runs from Dec. 7 to 10

The Grand Drama and Comedy Club will perform its holiday play, “A Nice Family Christmas,” written by playwright Phil Olson from Dec. 7 through 10.

This hilarious holiday comedy will have patrons laughing out loud and talking about this show long after the curtain call.

It’s Christmas Eve at Helen Lundeen (mom’s) Minneapolis apartment. An unexpected visit from crazy Uncle Bob and their outrageous grandmother starts the evening on its wild journey.

Helen’s son, Carl, has been charged to write an article about Christmas with his family for his newspaper, or he’ll be fired. The problem is, he doesn’t have his family’s consent.

One by one, we learn of each family member’s secrets, problems, and dysfunctions, and when they learn about the article, with some very personal family information, the fruitcake hits the fan. The question is, will the magic of Christmas bring them back together?

This play is a snarky comedy about a bickering, dysfunctional family, with a nod to a sweet uplifting holiday story.

The four performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Sonoran Plaza Main Stage, in the Sun City Grand Sonoran theater, 19753 N. Remington Drive.

Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. A cash bar is open one hour before showtime.

Reserved seat tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online at granddrama.com, livegrandaz.com or in person at the Grand activities desk.

The desk is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may also be available at the door 30 minutes before showtime.
