Dysart Unified School District cancels in-person graduation

COVID-19 forces plans for drive-thru diploma ceremony

The COVID-19 pandemic has officially canceled in-person graduation ceremonies for the Dysart Unified School District, once and for all.

District officials announced June 22 that the Tuesday, June 30 makeup date for the grduation at State Farm Stadium has also been canceled due to the pandemic concerns.

"It was determined that holding an in-person ceremony, even with added health and safety precautions and social distancing, would not be in the best interest of our students, families, staff and general public," district officials wrote in a news release. "Additionally, with the added emergency declarations within each city and county, and extra precautions and attendance limitations by State Farm Stadium, we did not feel the ceremony would truly provide the celebratory atmosphere that our graduates deserve."

The district plans to hold a drive-through celebration June 30 where students will receive diplomas with details to be released soon.

Additionally, DUSD plans to release a virtual graduation ceremony video for each high school at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29.

"Safety is the top priority, and the district has the social responsibility to avoid holding gatherings of this magnitude at this time," district officials wrote in the news release.
