Recently, a young student was logged in to his remote learning class at El Mirage Elementary School, when he unmuted his microphone on the video call and told his teacher, Cassandra Wilsey, that his mom had passed out, showing her laying on the floor through the Zoom video call.
Ms. Wilsey sprang to action, getting the other students off the call and trying to walk the student through calling 911. The student was unable to make the call, so the teacher contacted the school’s front office and administration for help while she stayed on the call with him.
Dell Clark, the school’s data records technician, called 911, and Principal Stephanie Davis and Assistant Principal Rick Haney rushed to the residence to assist, arriving before paramedics and checking on the mother.
Paramedics responded shortly after and provided the medical support. The mother was treated and released, officials said.
To show his appreciation to the staff members for their extraordinary actions during this incident, Dysart Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Quinn Kellis recently presented extraordinary pins to those involved, thanking them for their quick-thinking and fast response.
