DUSD candidate governing board deadline July 6

The deadline to file petition signatures for the Nov. 3 Dysart Unified School District Governing Board election is July 6.

Three seats need to be filled on the DUSD board, with six candidates filling statements of interest and petition signatures.

Included on the Maricopa County School Superintendent’s office website as candidates who have filled statements and the appropriate amount of signatures have been collected, are current school board members Jay Leonard, Christine A.K. Pritchard, as well as Chrystal Chaffin, Jo Grant, Rhiannon Miett and Charles Wilson.

In accordance to ARS 16-311(H), candidates had to file a statement of interest with the office of the Maricopa County School Superintendent before collecting nomination petition signatures.

The filing period opened June 6 of this year. In order for candidates names to appear on the ballot, a nomination paper and nonpartisan nomination petition.

The next step in the process, pursuant to ARS 15-421 (F) each candidates whose name has been certified on the election ballot or write-in list, can submit a recent photograph, a statement not to exceed 500 words and according to the Maricopa County School Superintendent’s office, a disclosure of any relationships by affinity, by consanguinity or by law to the third degree that exist between the candidate and any current governing board members or other candidates for election to the same governing board.

The information can be submitted beginning Tuesday, July 7 and no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 10. Write-in candidates must file a write-in candidate nomination paper during this same time frame.

School governing board candidates are eligible if they are registered to vote in Arizona, a resident of the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the day of election, school governing board members cannot be an employee of the school district or a spouse of a school district employee, including a person who directly provides certified or classified services to the school district as an employee of a third-party contractor, according to ARS 15-421 (C).
