The Dysart Unified School District and The Vista Center for the Arts are seeking artists for the inaugural Surprise Mayor’s Exhibit: A Tribute To Our Heroes.

Individual artists are invited to submit works thematically tied to the events of September 11, 2001 and/or works remembering and celebrating those who gave their lives through heroic acts.

Student submissions (ages 13-17) are free. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on July 30 and artists can submit up to three individual pieces for consideration.

The exhibit will be juried by a panel of partners and community members, along with Surprise Mayor Skip Hall.

Entry details and requirements can be found on the West Valley Arts website. Questions regarding entries can be directed to gallery@westvalleyarts.org.

Artists will be notified by August 9.

Built in 2008, The Vista is a performing arts center operated by the Dysart Unified School District.

This venue brings a variety of events and shows to the community, and offers a spacious lobby, 1,300 seats, and theatrical sound/lighting.

The Vista operates through the community education department, which offers a variety of services to the community, including Growing Minds Preschool, sports and enrichment programs, driver’s education courses, facility rentals and more.

All programs within Community Education, including The Vista, are self-funded and proceeds support and help to keep all programs affordable. For information or to purchase tickets to an upcoming event, call 623-523-8888.
