Deck the Hock coming soon to Surprise

6th annual event held at Senior Center

The city of Surprise is inviting residents to the sixth annual Deck the Hock holiday event on Thursday, Dec. 8.

This free, family-friendly celebration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St.

It includes performances by Dysart Community Center afterschool program, hot cocoa, sweet treats, holiday crafts and more.

Attendees can help bring holiday cheer to local families in need by bringing a new, unwrapped gift and a handmade or new ornament to the celebration. Place the gifts under two Christmas trees on display outside the Senior Center. The gifts, trees and ornaments will be donated to local families.

Those unable to make the event who would still like to donate can drop items off at the Surprise Senior Center between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdaysthrough Dec. 8.

Gift ideas for the families include:

Family A:

  • Family needs: Kitchen and baking items. Laundry supplies.
  • Age 7 Male - Playdoh, remote control car, bike, size 6 shoes
  • Age 8 Female - Playdoh, Legos, bike, keyboard piano, size 5 shoes, size 10/12 kids clothing
  • Age 10 Male - Legos, music, bike, guitar, keyboard piano, headphones, size 10 shoes, large men’s shirts
  • Age 14 Male - Guitar, size 10.5 shoes, x-large men’s shirts

Family B:

  • Family needs: Kitchen items, blankets, bathroom items and home décor.
  • Age 2 Male - Cars, stuffed animals, size 7 toddler shoes, 4T clothing
  • Age 3 Female - Barbie dolls, size 8 toddler shoes, 5T clothing
  • Age 5 Female - Barbie dolls, make-up, size 9 shoes, 5T clothing
  • Age 5 Male - Nerf guns, size 13 shoes, size 7/8 kids clothing
