Cline: Longtime volunteer wants seat on Council

Cline facing Fountain for Surprise City Council in District 2

Posted

My name is Alyson “Aly” Cline. I am running for Surprise City Council for the district that covers Sun City Grand, Bell West Ranch and part of Arizona Traditions.

People ask me about why I am running for this job. I love Surprise. I moved here in 2002 after looking at more than 75 various active living communities in many states.

A city council is a group of duly elected officials who serve as the legislative body of a city. Council members are tasked with representing the interests of their constituents. In addition to proposing, passing, and ratifying laws and ordinances, city councils manage budgets and investigate city agencies when necessary.

Representing the interests of the three communities located within District 2 is of utmost importance to me. That means listening to the concerns of the people who live in the communities and sharing information from the city to those who live here.

In the last 11 years, I have been able to volunteer for more than 19,000 hours within the city of Surprise — as a representative on the Disability Advisory Commission, as a volunteer coach for the city Parks and Recreation for nine years and 18 teams, as a volunteer scorekeeper for the last 10 years for the Cal Ripken and the Babe Ruth tournaments and as a leader of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life for five years.

I have been a volunteer board member and president of Friends of the Surprise Libraries for the past 10 years, serving as the volunteer president for the last seven years. “Friends” has been able to donate over $650,000 to our local libraries through the grant program to local teachers in support of literacy and reading programs.

A city is made up of residents. their homes and local businesses. Our city runs on the sales tax revenue from our local businesses.
Bringing and supporting local businesses is important to the ongoing economic health of our city. I have over 33 years working with businesses, helping them to improve their profits or develop marketing or strategic plans.

I want to offer my time and abilities to support the residents of District 2 and the city of Surprise. I value the input of the residents and will make my decisions based on facts and the needs of the city as a whole.

I am interested in helping our local veterans, and I would like to focus on bringing the many parts of our city together.

Please vote for me, Aly Cline, to represent you when the ballots arrive in July.
