Asante eyes Feb. 1 opening

New hours at Hollyhock to be set next week

Posted

It appears Saturday, Feb. 1 is the target date to open the new Asante Library, which is under construction at 16763 W. Vereda Solana Drive.

The City of Surprise and the Maricopa County Library last week announced the grand opening for 10 a.m. that morning.

The 10,000-square-foot library will feature self-check stations; a multipurpose room for library programming and story readings; adult, children and teen areas; and computers for the public to use.

Meeting and study rooms are also in the plans, which aren’t available at the city’s other two libraries, the Northwest Regional Library, 16089 N. Bullard Ave.; and the Hollyhock Library, 15844 N. Hollyhock St.

The library is also designed to give scenic views of the White Tank Mountains and Asante Community Park.

Hollyhock, meanwhile, is expected to receive new hours at the next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at Surprise City Hall in the Community Room, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

The City Council on Oct. 1 agreed to pay $43,000 from the Contingency Fund to pay for hours to double from 18 to 36 at the library that serves the Original Town Site. The new hours would go into effect in January before the opening of Asante.

Call the Parks and Recreation office at 623-222-2218.
