Curtain rises on play at Ghostlight Theatre

Ghostlight Theatre is in rehearsals for its next production.

“Art” will open with a 7 p.m. show Thursday, Sept. 9 on stage at 13541 W. Camino Del Sol in Sun City West. The run will feature eight performances.

“How much would you pay for a white painting on a white canvas? Would it matter who the painter was? Would it be art?,” the theater states in a news release of the “Art” plot line. “Serge has just bought such a painting, at great expense, and invited his lifelong friends over to show it off. To Marc, the painting is a joke. Eager to please, Ivan tells Serge he likes the painting. Lines are drawn and these old friends square off over the canvas, using it as an excuse to bring up past slights. As their arguments become less theoretical and more personal, they border on destroying their friendships.”

“Art” won the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play. It was written by Yasmina Reza and premiered in 1994.

Ghostlight Theatre opened its doors in 2010.
