Arizona Charter Academy starts modified back-to-campus model
Posted
By Independent Newsmedia
Fifth- through eighth-grade students will be allowed to return to class on the Arizona Charter Academy campus, 16025 N. Dysart Road, starting on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Students in kindergarten and first grade returned to campus Sept. 27, while second- through fourth-graders returned Oct. 6. Students also had the option of remaining at home for the semester.
Those that returned to campus are now studying under the ACA hybrid model. This allows for social distancing with small class sizes of 12 to 14 students in rooms with a normal capacity of 31 students.
Classes are split in half and the 12 to 14 students alternate in-person class and distance learning on opposite days. No students come in on Mondays. Cohorts are for Tuesday/Thursday on campus on Wednesday/Friday.
Other safety measures for in-person school include:
Spreading desks, face forward and tables six feet apart with assigned seating.
Recess schedules for less students on playground.
Students remain in the same class throughout the day (will have breaks outside, in the class, etc.).
Electives will be held in the classrooms.
Breakfast will be in the multipurpose room with social distancing, cleaned after every breakfast.
Lunch will be in the classroom.
