It will be a full ballot for the Dysart Unified School District governing board in the upcoming Nov. 3 election.
Nine individuals filed statements of interest with the Office of the Maricopa County School Superintendent, including Rhiannon Miett, Charles Wilson, Jo Grant, Chrystal Chaffin, Jay Leonard, Christine Pritchard, Stephen Goodman, Sophia Isaac and Marc Demers.
However, the latter three did not file any signatures, leaving a six-candidate race for three avaialble seats.
Current Dysart board member Jennifer Tanner is not seeking re-election.
Ms. Pritchard has been a member of the school board since 2006, with a break in the early 2010s, and is seeking re-election. She serves professionally as a licensed clinical social worker. She has lived in Surprise since 1997.
Mr. Leonard has served on the board for four years and is also seeking re-election. He is the owner of a security company and has lived in Surprise for 20 years.
Ms. Miett is the community engagement manager for DMB Community Life in Verrado and Alamar. She serves on the City of Surprise Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission, Young Life Surprise Leadership Committee, Speak Up Stand Up Save a Life executive team and was a graduate of Leadership West Class 22.
Ms. Grant is retired after serving the Southern Arizona Office of The State Senate and House of Representatives for the last 28 years. She served on the Amphitheater Public Schools board in the Tuscon area prior to moving from Oro Valley to Surprise.
Ms. Chaffin has taught music in DUSD for five years, including kindergarten through 12 grade, and has been teaching for a total of 14 years.
Mr. Wilson is a retired teacher after having committed to 25 years to the profession. He retired from DUSD in 2016.
