Guys Who Grill fires-up for the 13th annual all-you-can-sample barbeque fundraiser Saturday, March 15, at the Wickenburg Community Center, 160 N. Valentine St.
The grilling teams bring their “A” game for this competition, but the real winners are those who come to enjoy the food, drinks and live entertainment with the Prescott-based Tyller Gummersall band from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Event tickets include samples of various smoked and grilled meats including pork, beef and chicken. Beer, margaritas, soft drinks and water are available for purchase (cash only), along with raffle tickets to win a Weber barbeque grill valued at $1,200, donated by McKeever’s Ace Hardware. Picnic tables and hay bales are onsite for seating. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. Pets are not permitted.
Benefitting Camp Imagination, the summer arts camp produced by the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts, Guys Who Grill features teams of guys (and gals) trying to win awards including the People’s Choice recognition. Attendees can “vote” for their favorite team with monetary donations made at their booths. The People’s Choice winner will receive a $250 cash prize.
The fundraiser encourages the grilling teams to battle one another good-naturedly with their barbeque and offer samples to the public of the items they pride themselves on most. Continuing this year, both AZBarbeque Club and Barbeque Championship Series will sanction the event. Official BBQ judges will be making the decisions on which team is the “best of the best” in each prize category.
This year’s community support also includes Crescent Crown Distributing, NRS and Strebor Food Truck, who will be onsite with their “dirty sodas” and shaved ice for purchase.
Guys Who Grill VIP Tickets, which include reserved, shade seating and food service, are $50. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children age 5-10; free admittance for ages 4 and younger. Tickets for Guys Who Grill are available at the gate on the day of the fundraiser event or in advance by visiting dewpac.org or calling 928-684-6624.
