Ronald Joseph Vermeersch

Posted

Ronald, 84 passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 26th at home in Sun City, Arizona. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 16th 1937 to René Maurice Vermeersch (1983) and Emily Rose Appel (2016).
Ron is predeceased by his sister Donna Collins and daughter Heather Peria. He is survived by Carol, his wife of twenty-four years, sister Renee (Jim), sons Kevin (Gina), Andrew (Diane), and Daniel (Christina), daughter Michelle, and five grandchildren.
Ron attended DeLaSalle High School and Wayne State University in Detroit, graduating in 1962.
His love of everything sports was addictive and aside from watching Detroit’s professional teams, he played football and baseball for Wayne State University in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s.
After graduating from WSU Ron flew KC-135 refueling planes for the US Air Force as a Lieutenant.
Shortly after leaving the service he entered into a career in the airline industry and settled into the seacoast of New Hampshire using Boston as his main base. The love of the seacoast led him to raise three boys and enjoy everything from the mountains to the ocean for the better part of thirty years. He enjoyed skiing, baseball and swimming with his sons and loved coaching all three of them in any sport he could. He is still known by many as Coach Vermeersch in the seacoast area and fondly remembered for his knowledge and love of baseball that he passed on to all he taught.
His career with American Airlines spanned all thirty years he lived in New Hampshire and brought him all around the globe.
In 1997 he married Carol Peria and was beyond happy to have gained two wonderful daughters to enjoy time with. A few years later they moved to Sun City Arizona to enjoy retirement and be with his beloved Mom, Emily. He enjoyed golf, softball, tennis and friends until his passing.
Ron was always laughing and joking about something and will be remembered by those who knew him best as one who could brighten up any room.
He loved his wife Carol and his sons, daughters and grandchildren with all of his heart and frequently told us how lucky he thought he was to have such a great family. His whole family feels like the lucky ones and will carry the flag from here.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future time.
