"Witches" ride for charity

Public asked to watch, encourage and donate

Several Sun City West women plan to dress as witches and drive golf carts and ride bicycles through the streets raising funds and other donations for  the Free the Girls organization, which helps young women who have been victims of sex trafficking.

People are asked to donate gently used bras to send to the girls and donate money for their shipment. Ricers are also asked to wear a bra on the outside of their costume which will be donated later.

Many similar Witches Ride events will be conducted in other cities the same day.

Participants must be female residents of Sun City West and are asked to dress as witches in some way, but bicycle riders must wear a helmet.

Participants will leave the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center parking lot, 19803 R. H. Johnson Blvd. 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30. The two groups will follow the same route, but ride in opposite directions.

Bike riders will go north on Meeker Boulevard, then south on Camino del Sol where the two roads meet. They will then ride behind the Goodwill store and in front of Fry’s and the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center ending in the great lawn. Golf cars will be along the same route but in the opposite direction. They will start going east in front of Fry’s to Camino del Sol, turn left and follow it around until it becomes Meeker and take it back to the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center Great Lawn.

The route is approximately three miles.

The witches’ male friends, known as warlocks, and others, known as goblins, are encouraged to be along the route to cheer on the riders and to contribute to the fund.

Riders and their friends are also invited to gather in the recreation center Great Lawn afterwards, in costume, for BYOB snacks and drinks.
