Who’s Who in the Camera Guild — Terry Parks

Terry Parks was born and raised on the lower east side of Detroit. She came from a small Italian family and attended elementary and high school in Michigan. When she was 19 years old, she purchased her first camera, a Canon FTQL, and began taking family and holiday photographs.

In 1972, she moved to California to live with her sister and took art classes at night. During this time, she met and married her husband, Ron, who was working in the professional printing business preparing negatives for the printer. His business took him to Seattle where he and Ms. Parks settled and had a family of three children.

Eventually, technology was taking over Mr. Parks’s job and that’s when he began his training in Adobe Photoshop. Because of this, Ms. Parks was able to also get on the ground floor of Photoshop as Mr. Parks shared what he was learning with her.

As the years passed, Ms. Mr. Parks continued to take photos and expand her knowledge of Photoshop 5.0, honing her skills in both areas. After several members of her’s family moved to Sun City, and with retirement on the horizon, she and Ron decided Sun City was the place for them. In 2012, Ms. Parks discovered the Camera Guild, and after viewing the photos taken by the members, she was eager to join.

That Christmas, Mr. Mr. Parks bought her a digital Nikon camera and encouraged her to join the Guild. The rest is history. Ms. Mr. Parks mostly works with Adobe Elements these days and enjoys the creative side of photography it has to offer. She also enjoys teaching Photoshop Elements at the club during the education classes in the fall.
