VILCEK: Bin removal was only a matter of time

I don’t blame Parks & Sons for removing the recycle bins from our community and knew it was just a matter of time after seeing all the garbage and non-recyclable junk being thrown into (and around) those bins.

VILCEK: Bin removal was only a matter of time

I’m sure that the vast majority of people in our community followed the correct guidelines for recycling but, as always, it takes just a small number of inconsiderate people to ruin it for everyone else. As for Parks & Sons, please consider adding just two more pickups per year to your recycle schedule to offset the loss of this service.

In the area where we live, recycle collection is the first and third Wednesday of each month. The second pickup is always two weeks after the first one, but after the second pickup there can be as much as three weeks before the first pickup of the next month (e.g. July 15-Aug. 5). This is where the now-closed recycle drop off was extremely helpful.

I plan to contact Parks & Sons directly to ask them to consider pickups every other week in lieu of having to service the bins behind Safeway. Again, that amounts to only two more collections per year. You are encouraged to speak out as well so that perhaps we can get a better balanced recycle schedule after eliminating the drop off bins.
