MEMORIAL DAY
Vets organizations to conduct ceremony
Memorial Day at Sunland
Posted
The North West Valley Veterans Association will conduct its annual Memorial Day ceremony in Sun City.
The event is scheduled 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 30 at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 N Del Webb Blvd., Sun City. This is a free event and the public is invited.
The NWVVA is an organization of 16 veteran’s organizations that meet monthly at Sunland Memorial Park. They band together to jointly present the Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies sponsored by Sunland Memorial Park. The organization also retires unserviceable American flags with due ceremonies at Sunland. It also assists each other in fundraising activates, work together to solve common problems and other joint programs.
The Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. with the arrival of the American Legion Riders from Post 96 and the flyover of the Falcon War Birds in their vintage military aircraft. Present will be Uncle Sam, Rosie the Riveter chapter, Greenway High School ROTC Honor Guard, American Legion Mary Ellen Piotrowski Post No. 94 Rifle Squad, Arizona Nurses Honor Guard and Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame members. Special tribute will be given for military nurses during the ceremony and to veterans of all branches of service.
Patriotic music starts at 8:30 a.m. Master of ceremonies is Buz Isban, NWVVA commander. Guest speaker this year is Winnie Fritz, who served as an Army nurse. The guest chaplain will be Ray Grim.
Golf cars will pick attendees up where they park and bring them to the seating. There will be water available.
Dignity Memorial will host a barbecue buffet luncheon for all following the ceremony.
