On the second Tuesday of every month, veterans are given coffee and donuts from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Sun City Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd. This service is provided by Terri Flowers, veteran relations representative from Dignity Memorial Funeral Homes of Phoenix.

On June 8, Honorary Chapter Regent Shirley Staggs, of the Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, presented Vietnam War era veterans with 50th anniversary commemorative lapel pins, two buttons, two magnets and a brochure, which explains the meaning of the symbols on the pin.

This DAR branch became a Commemorative Partner with the United States Department of Defense to recognize, honor and thank all U.S. military veterans who served between Nov. 1 and April 15, 1975 regardless of location. In 2008, the National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 110-181) gave the secretary of defense the power to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. This program will continue through Veterans Day 2025.

Any organization may join the Commemoration Partners Program by visiting VietnamWar50th.com. More than 58,000 veterans gave their lives serving their country, and according to the Department of Veteran Affairs, more than nine million Americans served during the Vietnam War era, with more than 500,000 veterans living in Arizona.
