Not to be deterred by COVID 19, the Sun City Ukulele Club continues to meet virtually 3 p.m. Thursdays. The spirit of Halloween, and the chance to win a ukulele, brought 25 ukers together recently, with 16 donning “from-the-shoulders-up” costumes, which they described to encourage others to vote for them.

Costumes included Cookie Haas’s “COVID Made Me Go Bananas” and Helen Clemens’ “1960’s Hippie,” complete with love beads. Ginny Steenstra glued hundreds of fall colored leaves to herself and Maxine Brandolini sported seven eyeballs and declared, “I’ve Got My Eyes on You.” Nancy Chapin donned a lamp shade, showed a bottle of gin and proclaimed, “I’m The Light of the Party.” Devra Johnson was a 16th note and Trudy Bryson waved a miniature French flag and stuck out her tongue from a black and white painted face: “French Kiss.” Carol Keskimaki draped miniature pumpkins from her straw hat and Nat Hadley was the mysterious “Queen of the Aqua Fria.”

The winner was Mary Dyke, the “Scary Witch,” complete with a blood-curdling cackle.

The group then sang a dozen songs, including “The Monster Mash” and the theme from the Addams Family. RCSC card holders who are interested in learning more about the Sun City Ukulele Club are welcome to join these zoom jams.
