Hair will not be falling at the feet of Augie Tomaselli as the long-time Sun City hair stylist retired Jan. 7.
The stylists he worked with at Augie’s Hair Studio, 9877 W. Bell Road, honored him with a surprise get-together and many of his customers dropped by to say hello.
Tomaselli ended more than 40 years in the beauty industry, much of it in Sun City. He opened his Sun City shop in 1983 shortly after moving to the community from Scottsdale.
“I have had several studios across the Valley,” he said.
Cutting hair came to him early in life.
“I have been cutting hair since I was 10 years old,” he said. “I really enjoyed this career.”
Tomaselli started doing that in his native Sicily. He came to the United States in 1948 and later served in the U.S. Air Force.
When he isn’t cutting hair, he likes to be outdoors, especially working in his yard.
Tomaselli sold his shop in 2003 to to Mary and Chris White and her daughter, Carla, but stayed active in the salon working weekly. Although the salon had been sold many years ago it still carries his name, because it was important to the current owners they continue to honor him and his legacy that lives in Sun City.
Over the years Tomaselli has been active with the Catholic community having spiritual socials at his own home. He also gardening and baking traditional Italian pastries and food.
Tomaselli and his wife have been married 65 years and they have five children — Tommy, Roseanne, Eda, Natale and Joseph, who is deceased.
