Surprise area P.E.O. celebrates its Founders Day

Posted

The SCW-Surprise Reciprocity Council of P.E.O. held its Founders’ Day luncheon on Jan. 25 at Church on the Green in Sun City West.

Approximately 160 members and guests attended this affair to commemorate 156 years of this sisterhood and honor the seven young women who became known as the founders.

Their goal was to start a “society of their own.” On Jan. 21, 1869, they did just that, and each year hundreds of thousands of P.E.O. members gather nationwide to honor these original, trail-blazing women.

Chapter FK presented a program, titled “Evolution of Education for Women in the 1800s.” There were also items to purchase, raffles and a light lunch to make up the day.

Judy Gilpin was the 2025 Founders’ Day Chair.
