For seniors living at Sun City West Assisted Living, 13810 W. Sandridge Drive, the rhythm of daily life is set to the strum of guitars, the keys of a piano and the voices of local performers.
Whether it’s the soulful guitar of Johnny Carrasco, the smooth vocals of Dr. Dave or the lively piano of Laura Brown, each performance turns an ordinary afternoon into something unforgettable.
Recently, Jeff Sullivan played the guitar on Wine Down Wednesday Happy Hour, turning the afternoon into a small concert. The previous Friday, Mark Newberry returned with his guitar to entertain residents during happy hour. Other favorite performers include The Grace Notes Accapella Group and Joey Starrantino on the keys.
When staff take the mic for karaoke nights, the hits span from ‘50s love songs to ‘80s pop, proving the music never gets old.
“Music does more than entertain. It sparks memories, lifts moods and brings people together,” said Dawn Miller, executive director of Sun City West Assisted Living. “We see firsthand how live music can reduce stress, encourage social interaction, and even improve cognitive function in our residents. It’s a joyful, therapeutic part of daily life here.”
