Sun City West group setting up for recall
(INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA/JENNIFER JIMENEZ)
A group of Sun City West residents is looking to start a recall against three board members.

A Sun City West group is aiming for a community meeting and a potential recall of three board members.
An announcement of the meeting, set for 4-7 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Quail/Coyote Room at the Sun City West Foundation Plaza, 14465 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd., said the group will discuss issues it has with operations regarding the Recreation Centers of Sun City West.
"A discussion will be held concerning the out of control spending by Sun City West management and the current board of governors' unwillingness to oversee Sun City West operations as required by the association's bylaws," the announcement stated.
The group said it will then collect signatures to recall RCSCW board President Timothy Hurley, RCSCW Treasurer Richard Rhoads and board member and Charter Clubs Chair John Leary. The group also is seeking a "no confidence" vote on RCSCW General Manager Bill Schwind.
The group, with a webite OurSCW.com, says it is aiming to recall the board members for not following association polices and ultimately the group says it is looking to oust Scwind as general manager.
Among their complaints regarding Schwind is that the association increase pay and benefits without sharing costs with the community, kept the RCSCW fully staffed and open during the pandemic, and closed all the golf courses during the pandemic.
"Although this petition for Mr. Schwind does not create a legal mandate, if a sufficient number of residents sign the petition concerning Schwind's performance, the board must take notice of the message sent by the community," organizers said.
The group has several days and times for recall petitions:
4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 13518 W. Sky Hawk Drive;
11 a.m.-4p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at 13518 W. Sky Hawk Drive;
