Sun City West club stays busy during summer

It’s summertime in Sun City West and although many snowbirds have retreated to cooler climes members of Scrapbooking, Papercraft & More haven’t slowed down a bit.

A well-attended, all-day Christmas in July crop event included a bountiful potluck and members getting a head start on holiday greetings or working on card designs recently taught in workshops. These cards included the pop-up Christmas gift-card holder and the interactive waterfall card featuring overlapping holiday-themed layers.

Numerous classes were offered in July where members learned how to make a variety of unique fancy fold and stamped cards including the folding screen card that, in addition to being a pretty greeting is also a decorative keepsake.

The mind-bending “never-ending card,” with its multiple embellished layers, was mesmerizing to make; recipients of this card repeatedly flip one layer over the other until they magically arrive at the beginning again. A reverse mask and sponge technique to create cards with colorful background patterns and over-stamped with bold images was fun for all.

Several new members attended the informative new member orientation to learn about SPAM and all the benefits of joining. Anyone who enjoys papercrafts, cardmaking or scrapbooking (traditional and digital) is encouraged to drop-in and chat with members. New member forms are available at the clubroom.

Creating a cute dimensional doggie face card and a themed card art swap takes place 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11.

SPAM meets in the Beardsley center’s Agave Room on Wednesdays (6-9 p.m.), Thursdays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), Fridays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m.-5 p.m.). For more information, call club president Lynne Marion at 440-666-6386.
