While perusing the cards on the monthly card challenge bulletin board, one notices the members of Scrapbooking, Papercrafts & More favor a large variety of coloring techniques.

Some members turn to colored pencils, pan pastels, dye inks or watercolors to enhance images and die cuts while others rely on designer papers they incorporate into their cards to add color.

Member Patti Burleson recently taught a class where different colors of ink from inkpads were brushed and seamlessly blended over cardstock to create beautiful backgrounds. Depending on the colors of ink chosen and how the inks were applied, members recreated sunrises, sunsets, marbleized effects and seasonal landscapes.

Interesting die cut shapes cut out of black cardstock or images stamped in black ink, in conjunction with a personal greeting, were then applied and layered over the colorful backgrounds to create unique hand-crafted greeting cards.

With the basic technique learned, participants added their own touches to cards using the many paper crafting tools available in the club room.

Learn how to make greeting cards, papercrafts or scrapbooks (traditional or digital) by joining SPAM in Beardsley Center’s Agave Room on Wednesdays (4-9 p.m.), Thursdays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), Fridays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m.-5 p.m.).
