Sun City West club gathers for Summer Survivor Picnic

Posted

With a table with fried chicken, picnic side dishes and pans of desserts, the Rip ‘N’ Sew club’s annual Summer Survivor Picnic featured more than 50 members gathering in the Palm Ridge Recreation Center.

“Everybody just raved about that party,” said Lynn Craig, one of the party planners. “We got so many compliments.”

Robyn Reynolds joined her in heading the party committee.

Quick to sign on to help were Joan Hardy, Linda Logan, Rose Waldon and Louise Howden.

Planners sewed more than 150 items for table decor and bingo prizes. All were made using the party’s red, white and blue color scheme. Among the prizes were casserole carriers, triangle pouches, project bags, fabric baskets, scissors holders, one-handle totes and more.

Safeway catered the chicken and club members contributed the side dishes and desserts.

Craig said that Jolene Piaskowski shared a sewing-themed bingo game for the party.

Round after round of the game allowed everyone to go home with at least two prizes, Hardy said.

Piaskowski had the winning raffle ticket for a quilt made and donated by Evelyn Simek. The raffle raised $199 for Quilts for a Cause, a special interest group within Rip ‘N’ Sew.

“We just had fun,” Craig said. The party’s planners had such fun that they all have signed up to plan next year’s Summer Survivor Picnic.
