Sun City West club explores papercraft techniques

Posted

Members of Sun City West’s Scrapbooking, Papercrafts & More club have opportunities to learn a variety of crafting techniques that involve paper. Signe Shuck recently taught fellow members the art of paper quilling, in which thin strips of paper are rolled, shaped and glued together to create intricate 3D designs.

Using special hand-held tools, participants created Valentines Day themed cards by rolling thin strips of red paper into circles, which they then “pinched” to form small teardrop shapes. By arranging a collection of quilled shapes together they formed a flower with heart-shaped petals. Signe also displayed additional decorative art objects she created using the paper quilling technique.

Learn how to make greeting cards, papercrafts or scrapbooks (traditional or digital) by joining SPAM in the Beardsley center’s Agave Room on Wednesdays (4-9 p.m.), Thursdays (9 a.m.-3 p.m.), Fridays (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Saturdays (9 a.m.-5 p.m.).
