Sun City thespian lands role in Beckett’s classic play
Posted
Bobby Havens, Sun City resident and president of Sun City Players Community Theater, has been cast as Pozzo in Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot.”
The play was penned in 1952 by Irish novelist, dramatist and director Beckett and premiered in early 1953 at Paris’s tiny Theatre de Babylone. The play is considered a masterpiece of existentialism, exploring the futility of man’s hope and is often characterized in the tradition of Theatre of the Absurd.
Havens, a 2022 AriZoni winner for best actor, will appear with Keath Hall, the 2021 AriZoni winner for best actor, along with Joe Flowers, Jason Hall and Miller Kass. “Waiting for Godot” is being produced by Ronin Theater Company and directed by Dr. Teresa Minarsich.
“Waiting for Godot” will be performed under the stars in the courtyard of the historic Irish Cultural Center in downtown Phoenix for one weekend only, March 2-5. Tickets may be purchased at azirish.org/performances.
