Temple Beth Shalom of the West Valley will present a musical concert with the Rural Street Klezmer Band, performing traditional Jewish folk music of Eastern European Jewish communities 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26.

Pre-sale concert tickets are $20 each per person, $10 for ages 13 and younger and children younger than 5 will be admitted free. Perhaps most familiar as the music of the 19th and early 20th century Eastern European shtetl, klezmer music has its origins in the Middle Ages as an important element of the Jewish wedding.

The term “klezmer” — originally used to describe the itinerant musicians themselves —  is a contraction of the Hebrew words, kley-zemer and can be translated as “vessel of song.”

No backpacks or purses will be allowed at the concert. A clear purse or bag can be utilized.
